PACKING TIPS
GENERAL PACKING TIPS
1. Tape the bottom of all boxes. Twice along the opening and twice in the other direction.
2. Place heavy items in smaller boxes and lightweight items in large boxes.
3. Individually wrap small and fragile items.
4. Pack every box to the top without over packing to prevent the box from being crushed.
5. On the label, list the contents of the box and the room where it belongs.
6. If the contents in the box are fragile, place the word “FRAGILE” on the box label.
7. If no other boxes should be placed on top of a box (such as a box containing a lampshade), place the words “TOP LOAD ONLY” on the box label.
8. Stuff top, bottom and sides of boxes with paper. Bathroom towels may also be used.
9. Do not pack money, securities, prescription medicine, valuable papers or jewelry—keep these items with you.
10. Do not pack flammable items: aerosol cans, paints, gasoline, etc.
11. Do not pack perishable items: frozen foods, produce, plants, etc.
CLOTHING
1. Put hanging clothes in wardrobe boxes.
2. Place shoes in medium size boxes and place paper between each layer of shoes.
3. Place other clothes in medium size boxes.
4. Clothing/linens in dresser drawers may be left in drawers.
PICTURES
1. Place large pictures/wall hangings in picture box and line the bottom, sides, and top with paper before taping the box closed. Sometimes you may be able to place more than one picture in a picture box—use your best judgment.
2. Small pictures may be individually wrapped and place in a small or medium sized box.
LAMPS
1. Remove light bulbs and place lampshade in a separate box and mark “TOP LOAD ONLY” AND “LAMP SHADE”. We recommend placing table lamps in a medium or large box and wrapping each lamp in a thick blanket and using pillows to place between each lamp in the box.
DISHES AND GLASSES
1. Use Dish Pack boxes that are double corrugated.
2. Cushion the bottom with paper or bath towel.
3. Wrap each piece individually with paper or bubble wrap.
4. Bundle flatware in groups of three and wrap the bundle.
5. Separate each bundle of flatware with paper or bubble wrap.
6. Cushion the top and sides of the box with paper to prevent shifting during transport.
ELECTRONICS
1. Use original box if possible.
2. Code wiring with tape for easy reinstallation.
3. Personal computer: backup all important programs and documents; “park” the hard disk.
4. Compact disk: check instructions for securing the laser.
5. Stereo: fasten down the tone arm and dustcover.
**We may have some boxes on hand if you need to pack some of your last minute items or if we think an item should be packed in a box to better protect it during transport
